What Are Auto-Discount Rules?
Auto-Discount Rules let you schedule automatic price drops on your listings. You define a simple rule -- like "drop the price by $3 every 5 days" -- and the system takes care of the rest. Price drops follow the schedule you set, so they stay predictable.
How to Create a Rule
In the app this feature is called Timed Discounts. Create one from the Discounts page by clicking Create Timed Discount, then attach it to your listings (from a listing you can attach it to a rule you've already created).
- Pick a discount type: percentage (e.g., 5% off) or fixed dollar amount (e.g., $2 off)
- Set the discount amount per step
- Choose how often the discount increases (interval in days)
- Optionally set a maximum number of steps and a floor price (the minimum price you'll accept)
- Attach the rule to the listings it should run on
How It Works
Every interval, the system automatically increases the discount by one step. Buyers see the discounted price automatically -- no coupon code needed.
The rule stops when it hits your floor price, reaches the maximum number of steps, or you pause or delete it.
Example
Say you list a jacket for $80 and create a rule: $5 off every 3 days, with a floor price of $50.
- Day 3: price drops to $75
- Day 6: price drops to $70
- Day 9: price drops to $65
- ...continues dropping $5 every 3 days
- At $50 the rule stops automatically -- your floor price is protected
Managing Your Rules
You're in control. From your seller dashboard or listing page, you can manage any active rule.
- Pause -- Freezes the discount at the current level, no further drops
- Resume -- Picks up right where you left off
- Delete -- Removes the rule and deactivates the discount entirely
Tips
- Great for items you want to move by a certain date -- set the interval to match your timeline
- Always set a floor price so you don't go below what you're comfortable with
- The percentage option works well for higher-priced items, fixed dollar for lower-priced ones
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have multiple rules on one listing?
No. Each listing can only have one active discount rule at a time.
What if my item sells while a rule is active?
The rule stays on record, but the listing is no longer active so no further discounts are applied. You don't need to do anything.
Does the discounted price affect my payout?
Yes. The buyer pays the discounted price, so your payout is based on the lower amount (minus standard fees). That's why setting the right floor price matters.
