Coupons & Promo Codes

A coupon takes a percentage or a dollar amount off, either by itself or when the buyer types its code. It does nothing until you attach it to listings. The coupon comes out of your share, and the Sellwild fee is worked out on the lower price.

Make a coupon

Start it
On the Discounts page, press Create Coupon. Or press Create on a preset such as 20% Off, which fills in the amount for you.
Name it
Name is for you. Leave it empty and the coupon is named after its amount, such as "15% Off".
Set the amount
Pick Percentage or Fixed Amount in Discount Type, then fill in Percentage Off (up to 100) or Amount Off ($).
Choose how buyers get it
Press Automatically applied at checkout or Buyer enters a code. For a code, type it in Discount Code. Codes are saved in capitals, and no two coupons on Sellwild can share one. A taken code says "That code is not available. Try another."
Press Create Coupon
The new card appears with a No listings warning. Press Add listings and tick the listings it should work on. See Choose Listings for a Discount.

Limits and dates

Every field below is optional.

Field	What it does
Minimum Purchase ($)	The item's price must be at least this. Shipping does not count.
Max Discount ($)	Percentage coupons only. The most it takes off one order.
Total Usage Limit	How many orders can use it, from all buyers together.
Per Buyer Limit	How many times one signed-in buyer can use it. Guest orders are not counted.
Start Date (optional)	The first day it works.
End Date (optional)	The last day it works. The day ends at midnight UTC.

A use counts as soon as the buyer starts to pay. If the order is cancelled, or the payment is never finished, the use comes back within about two hours. With a Total Usage Limit, Sellwild emails you once 3 or fewer uses are left, unless you turned off Discount and coupon alerts in Notification Preferences.

What buyers see

An automatic coupon changes the price everywhere. The listing page shows Original, Discount and Sale Price, and search results cross out the old price. The buyer pays the sale price with no code.

A code coupon shows nothing until the buyer presses Apply coupon at checkout and types the code, which adds a Coupon line with the amount off. Give buyers the code yourself, for example in a chat. See how buyers use a coupon.

Only one coupon counts per order. A code the buyer enters takes the place of an automatic discount on that listing. It is not added on top.

When a code does not work

Checkout says why. The messages a buyer can see:

No coupon has that code: "Invalid coupon code".
The coupon is not on this listing: "This coupon is not valid for this listing". Another seller's code gets "This coupon is not valid for this seller".
You paused it: "This coupon is not active".
Outside its dates: "This coupon is not yet active" or "This coupon has expired".
Under the minimum: "Minimum purchase of $25.00 required".
Used up: "This coupon has reached its usage limit", or for one buyer, "You have already used this coupon the maximum number of times".

What a coupon costs you

The buyer pays the lower price, and your share drops with it. Sellwild's fee is 10% of the lower price, so a $10 coupon on a $100 item costs you about $9. On the sale page, You Earn takes the coupon off, so it matches what reaches your Stripe balance. See Fees and What You Earn.

Add a coupon when you post

On the sell page, Sell it faster with a discount lists the coupons you have. Pick one and it is added to the listing when you post. See Pricing Your Item.
